Mathias Reinthaller was born in Vienna and completed his vocal studies with distinction at the Vienna University of Music after finishing high school.

In 1986, he won an award at the International Singing Competition of the Society of Friends of Music in Vienna and made his debut at the Vienna Festival Weeks with Schubert’s Die schöne Müllerin.

His first opera appearance was as GUGLIELMO in Mozart’s Così fan tutte at the Schönbrunn Palace Theater. In 1987, he joined the Municipal Theater of Koblenz, where he performed a wide-ranging repertoire from Mozart to Puccini, Britten, and Menotti. His roles included PAPAGENO (The Magic Flute), the COUNT in Lortzing’s Wildschütz, and SCATINARD in La Bohème.

Since 1989, Mathias Reinthaller has been a regular guest at opera houses in both Germany and Austria. In 1992, he made his debut at the Prague State Opera as TADDEO in Rossini’s L’Italiana in Algeri. At the Gars am Kamp Festival, his portrayal of PAPAGENO gained significant media attention. In 1993, he performed in two new Austrian operas at the Hellbrunn Festival.

His stage repertoire also includes contemporary operas, operettas (e.g., EISENSTEIN and DR. FALKE in Die Fledermaus, RENE in The Count of Luxembourg), and musicals (FREDDY in My Fair Lady at the Deutsches Theater in Munich in 1996).

Mathias Reinthaller has participated in various radio and television productions, including an international singing competition in South Africa in 1990, where he won an award. In 1993, he recorded his first CD (opera arias and duets from Mozart’s operas, conducted by Wilfried Tachezi), followed by three more recordings.

After a vocal transition, Mathias Reinthaller debuted as a tenor in 1995 at Gars am Kamp, performing as ABDALLO in Verdi’s Nabucco. Subsequent roles included DON OTTAVIO (Don Giovanni, Schönbrunn Palace Theater), SIMON in The Beggar Student (Görlitz), JAQUINO in Fidelio (Gars am Kamp Open-Air Festival), and ADAM in Der Vogelhändler (Schloß Frauenthal-Deutschlandsberg).

In 2001, he played Emperor FRANZ JOSEPH in the musical Sisi at the Ronacher Theater in Vienna.

In 2003, he performed as FROH in Wagner’s Rheingold at the Tyrolean Festival in Erl under the direction of Gustav Kuhn.

In April 2005, he appeared as the singer in Freunde, das Leben ist lebenswert, the opening production of the new Stadttheater Walfischgasse in Vienna.

In the autumn of 2008, he embarked on a concert tour in Japan.

In 2009, he played WENZEL in The Bartered Bride at the Gars am Kamp Open-Air Festival.

In 2011, he undertook his second concert tour in Japan and performed as Count DANILO in The Merry Widow at the Opera Liberec (Czech Republic) and in Zurich.

In 2014, he went on his third concert tour in Japan.

Since 2004, Mathias Reinthaller has been teaching solo singing at the Gustav Mahler Conservatory in Vienna. Since 2011, he has been a solo singing instructor at the Vienna Conservatory, and since 2020, he has been leading a vocal class at the Friedrich Gulda School of Music in Vienna.
