
Simon Reitmaier
Born in Tyrol, Simon Reitmaier studied at the University Mozarteum Salzburg with Univ. Prof. Alois Brandhofer and at the Private University Johannesgasse Vienna with Matthias Schorn, graduating with distinction. He also received chamber music instruction from Claus Christian Schuster.

Solo performances with Duisburger Philharmoniker, Niederösterreichische Tonkünstler, Kammerorchester Regensburg, Amadeus Consort Salzburg, Orchester 1756, Salzburg Chamber Soloists, Tiroler Kammerorchester Innstrumenti, Budapester Virtuosen.
Chamber Music Collaborations
Collaborated with musicians from Berliner Philharmoniker, NDR Elbphilharmonieorchester Hamburg, Mozarteumorchester Salzburg, Camerata Salzburg, Twins Quartett, Auner Quartett, and artists such as Antonio Lysy, Christoph Traxler, Joji Hattori.
2009: Awarded the START scholarship from the Austrian Ministry of Culture.
June 2013: Carnegie Hall debut with the Mahler String Quartet.
Performed in Japan, Taiwan, Russia, the USA, South America, and Europe.
August 2022: Principal Clarinetist in the NDR Elbphilharmonieorchester Hamburg under Alan Gilbert.
Teaching & Jury Work
Since September 2021, lecturer for Clarinet and Performance Class at the Friedrich Gulda School of Music Vienna.
Regularly conducts masterclasses internationally.
Jury member for competitions, including Silverstein Works competition.
May 2023: Jury member at the “Prima la Musica” National Competition in Graz (Chamber Music with Piano).
Organizational Activities
As an independent artist, he maintains close collaborations with national and international musicians, composers, record labels, orchestras, cultural forums, and institutions.
Founded the Interregional Chamber Orchestra Telfs, which includes members of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra.
Since Autumn 2017, he has been the artistic director of the chamber music series at Klimt Villa Vienna.
Recordings & CD Releases
2017: Released the CD “Clarinet Quintets by W.A. Mozart, M. Reger, and E.L. Leitner” in collaboration with the Auner Quartett, under the classical label Gramola Vienna.
October 12, 2019: World premiere of the solo piece “XIV for Clarinet” by Finnish composer Kalevi Aho (Innsbruck, ORF-Tirol, Studio3).
February 2019: Recorded the work for the Swedish label BIS in England (Potton Hall).
August 2021: CD recording and world premiere of “Notturno” for String Quintet, Clarinet, and Tenor, composed by Austrian composer Ernst-Ludwig Leitner. Released in January 2022 under Edition Tandem.
April 2022: CD recording (world premiere recording) of the Clarinet Concerto by Argentine composer Eduardo Grau, conducted by Francisco Varel, released in September 2023 under the Naxos label.
January 2023: Released the “anElyson” Clarinet Concerto for Solo Clarinet and Chamber Orchestra by Franz Baur, performed with the Tiroler Kammerorchester Innstrumenti under the direction of Gerhard Sammer, published by Helbling Verlag.
Spring 2024: The label Gramola will release a CD featuring Brahms’ Clarinet Quintet and world premieres of solo clarinet compositions by Kurt Schwertsik, Georg Breinschmid, Simon Zöchbauer, Johanna Doderer, and Andreas Aigmüller.
